Personal Taxation Q 'n A

We have a babysitter who wants to be paid cash and does not want to give us a receipt, how does this affect my taxes?

Any payments received by a babysitter are reportable as income whether or not received as cash or cheque. You are required, when deducting the costs of childcare to either report the name of the institution or the Social Insurance Number of the individual performing the services. Without this information, you may be denied the deduction for childcare expenses.
